Ty Rebecca

Established 2024

Ty Rebecca is a mixed use building in the heart of Newcastle Emlyn in West Wales. I bought the flat on the second and third floor of the building in 2019, and finally purchased the rest of it in April 2024 – after a nailbiting auction. The intention was to provide space for a commercial tenant, but also to make it a community resource that would benefit the town beyond simply being another place to buy things. To that end, we divided up the space into three different units.

Müttley Crüe

Our commercial tennant is the excellent dog groomer Müttley Crüe. Hannah has been a fixture in the town for three years and moved into Ty Rebecca to expand the services and products she provides.

Community Freezer

The Community Freezer and Fridge, run by Cadernid Resilience, has been set up to distribute food that would otherwise be thrown away. It is open every Monday (9-11.30) and Thursday (9.30-12)

Library of Things

The Library of Things, also managed by Cadernid, allows visitors to borrow things such as tools, wheelchairs, gazebos and other equipment for a small charge. The library is open on Thursday afternoons.

In addition, we also provide storage space for Plant Dewi, which creates baby boxes full of clothes and toys for families around the town. We have also established a well-used noticeboard on the front of the building and have big plans to renovate the rear too.

The goats have done their work, so the humans are taking over…

The garden project

I’ve always wanted a big garden. So why am I giving mine away?

Key words: Mutual Aid

Mutual aid is the concept of voluntary, collaborative work within a community to provide resources to all.

Welcome to Ty Rebecca

One year ago, I spent all my money buying this beautiful building. This is what’s going on.
